His articles have appeared in major newspapers and magazines. He is also an accomplished genealogist, having researched his family tree for over 25 years. His hobbies include photography and caring for his vast vinyl record collection. He is a lifelong resident of Georgia, and lives with his wife Paula and stepson Aaron.
