Reseña del libro "In Spite of it All: Eva the Diva Foster (en Inglés)"
Eva Alice Foster's story is one of faith, strength, hardship, perseverance, and sacrifice. She rose to national acclaim for a short period of time having recorded a hit single, "You'll Never Know," on the Atlantic label. Eva was on the pathway of success in the northeast, but left Washington, D.C. to return to her hometown of Greensboro, N.C. out of love and commitment to her family. Eva resumed a long singing career in N.C. in spite of personal family tragedies and the reality of her dream deferred. Eva sang in the local night clubs, at her church, and for many local events. Eva encountered resistance along the way, including her parents' objection of performing jazz and being a part of the club scene. It was difficult leaving home as a young and single African American female trying to succeed in a world that did not necessarily favor female or African American progress. She dodged the bullets of alcohol and hard drug addiction although many in her circle embraced that way of life. People were skeptical and many were not supportive of her jazz singing career. Today, Eva continues to sing, and her voice is getting stronger! Eva is known in the community as "Eva the Diva" and loves entertaining folks. Eva continues to share her gifts in the community. You are likely to catch her playing cards at Windsor Community Center; telling a joke or two; helping someone in need, and of course, singing.
