Deborah and her cousin, Shirl, have been transported back in time. They are young children again, folding clothes under the clothesline in Deborah's sunny backyard. They notice a huge flock of brightly-colored pigeons, but, as they look closer, the girls are surprised to see that the birds are more like long-legged peacocks! Shirl announces that her brother, Neil, has gone missing and they must find him quickly. In their search, they come upon animals and people from the past. No one is quite like they remember, but luckily, everyone has clues to help find the mischievous, lost boy. Although the setting is a Pittsburgh suburb, it is so typical that it could be anywhere a child's imagination roams.
