One day, however, his comfortable existence was shattered by a sequence of unexpected and devastating events, plunging him into a terrifying new world of danger and excitement.... "What a charming and enchanting book this turned out to be. In her introduction, Sylvia says that this book will appeal to cat lovers everywhere, but I can say that, as a dog lover, it will actually appeal to all animal lovers everywhere. It has helped me, as a dog person, to understand cats more. During the reading I noticed that Sylvia has that rare skill of feeling and creating a sense of place. You can believe yourself in that environment with Rufus. Also Sylvia has managed to think small and see things from the cat's diminutive point of view. Anthropomorphism is a difficult thing to do well, but Sylvia has managed to do it without the usual sentiment and saccharine. She has easily done it on a level with Black Beauty and The Incredible Journey. It's a great plot too. Therefore I really do recommend this book with five stars... Read it...
