Wealthy urbanites and vacationing tourists in search of country homes edged out farmers and lake boat captains as they claimed possession of Erie's shore. An electric railway fed a new "sub-city" that brought a population increase to the village, but also opened the door to invasion by a sinister element that threatened locals. Lake Erie's Avon Point cared little whether its victims were rich or poor. The shoreline collected the bodies of socialites who were the victims of Erie's angry storms, and luckless rum runners. A deeper look into Avon Lake's history exposes some of its very bones, and reveals an intriguing past that sometimes tells an ominous story.
