The king had been keeping a watchful eye on the pair; of late, disquieting rumors came to Gondemar's ears that armies were amassing in Etham. Aware that he was aging and his beloved daughter, Princess Alianor, was yet unmarried, Gondemar encouraged her to seek out a suitable husband. To his approval, Alianor chose the quiet, young king, William of Coramer, of whom the old king had been mentoring for the past two years. Gondemar decided to announce their betrothal at the Michaelmas Tournament.
