Imagine that you are born and grow to adulthood and age and die - but instead of that being your gateway to whatever afterlife you may believe in, instead of being the end of everything you have ever known, what if your soul, your spirit - your umbra, that is, could find safe refuge while a new body formed around it and after a few days, you were reborn as a young adult in a fresh, new flesh, purged of all the negative memories you'd accrued during your previous lifetime?What if this happened to all your family and friends and contemporaries as well, what if, when you woke up young, you found the love of your lives was old? Would you care, since, after all, in your eyes, your beloved hasn't changed? Would they care? Would you wake to find you were physically younger than your sons, your daughters?Worse, what if you woke and didn't remember any of the people you used to love?And, worse again, what if something went wrong with the entire process and you find yourself unable to access your body?What if your umbra became sundered?
