Reseña del libro "The Wizard's Bride: The Personal Reflections of Mrs. Thomas Edison (en Inglés)"

The Wizard's Bride is the true story of one of the world's most famous men, Thomas Alva Edison. The story is told by his second wife, Mina Miller Edison. Thanks to the Edison archives and a lifetime of Mina's personal letters, the inventor's wife of forty-five years reveals the family life of "The Most Popular Man in America," according to a New York Times poll in the 1920s.Mina was but a teenager when she first met Mr. Edison who was already world famous and rich, was twice her age, deaf and had three children. But to Mina, who was financially independent herself, it was Mr. Edison's exciting life that drew her to him. His wife Mary had just died of Scarlet Fever and his family life had evaporated. He was attracted to Mina by her youth, beauty and charm.Troubles began when Edison's daughter, Marion, age twelve, rebelled against Mina who was only seven years her senior. Marion complained, "Mina's too old to be my playmate and too young to be my stepmother." This was but one of the rocky starts to the Edison/Miller marriage.Edison's two sons, younger than Marion, adored their father all their lives. But that adoration was unrequited. He was unable to give his son's any guidance or love and despite Mina's attention to them, the boys floundered in school and in their businesses. Edison refused to allow them, or anyone else, to use the famous Edison name in any of their attempts at business ventures. As a result, the boys' happiness was elusive. But this book is about Mina and how she dealt with her husband's inventive genius and his children's rebellions. It is also about the three addition children she had with Edison and how their lives contrasted so sharply with the others.Read also about Edison's most important inventions and how he brought them to life. Live with him in his laboratories, watch him create General Electric Co., learn about the development of the light bulb and why Europe uses Direct Current and America uses Alternating Current. Did you know Edison invented the electric chair and cement houses. And meet other famous inventors who interact with Edison. Travel through Europe with the family as they mingle with the rich and famous. This is truly a book for both men and women.
